FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 18, 2023, (Dekalb, GA)

The Shular Institute Partners with DeKalb County School CTAE for the Battle of the Brigades Culinary Program. The Battle of the Brigades will involve 11 Dekalb County CTAE high schools in a friendly competition to showcase their culinary skills, creativity, and teamwork with a real restaurant takeover. The pilot program will debut with Warren Tech this May, the first school in the DeKalb County School CTAE system to participate in the program.

The program will kick off this month with a pilot launch utilizing Warren Tech one of the CTAE schools. The pilot will give a glimpse into what is to be expected for the 2023-2024 program that will officially start in the Fall.

The Shular Institute, a leading culinary school, is excited about the new partnership with DeKalb County School Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE). The program aims to inspire and train young culinary talents at the high school level by walking them through the steps of creating and operating an actual restaurant.

“We are thrilled to partner with DeKalb County School CTAE to bring this innovative culinary pilot program to Warren Tech,” says Certified Master Chef Daryl Shular, founder and education director of the Shular Institute.

The Battle of the Brigades will run for the school term of 2023-2024, during which students will receive training and guidance from the Shular Institute’s renowned chefs, who will act as mentors and judges. The program will culminate in a final restaurant takeover, where schools will compete against each other in a restaurant takeover challenge, in which funds from the competition will go back to CTAE programs.

“We are excited to partner with Shular Institute and offer our students a unique opportunity to learn from some of the best chefs in the industry,” said Chef Keio Gayden Instructional Coordinator DeKalb County School CTAE. “This program aligns perfectly with our mission to provide our students with hands-on, real-world learning experiences that prepare them for success in their future careers. We look forward to seeing our students’ creativity and skills shine in the Battle of the Brigades competition.”
