Dekalb County – The Shular Institute, a leading culinary and hospitality institute, is proud to announce its partnership with Prison Fellowship, the nation’s leading nonprofit organization that aims to bring hope and restoration to those affected by crime and incarceration. The two companies will collaborate on a pilot culinary program this summer underneath the Shular Institute’s Brigade programming.

The program will provide recreational culinary training to kids between the ages of 14 and 17. The Brigade program will be held at the Shular Institute’s state-of-the-art facilities in Tucker, Georgia, and will run for six weeks. The program will teach participants fundamental culinary skills, including knife skills, and cooking techniques. Participants will also receive minor instructions on food safety and sanitation.

“We are thrilled to partner with Prison Fellowship a leader in their field on this important initiative,” said Certified Master Chef Daryl Shular, founder and President of the Shular Institute. “Our goal is to help young people discover a passion for cooking and provide them with the skills they can use in the future. We believe that Brigade has the potential to be a transformative experience for these young men and women and help to break the prison pipeline with prisonfellowship.org.”

Prison Fellowship has a long history of working with incarcerated individuals and their families, and the organization sees Brigade as an extension of its mission to restore lives and communities impacted by crime. “We’re excited to partner with the Shular Institute on this innovative program,” said Yvette Kaufman-Bell, a spokesperson for Prison Fellowship. “Brigade offers an opportunity for kids who may have faced challenges in their lives to learn new skills and gain a sense of purpose. We believe that this program has the potential to make a real difference in the lives of these young people.”

The Brigade program began on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, and will conclude with a completion ceremony and celebration on Thursday, June 29, 2023. Participants who successfully complete the program will receive a certificate of completion, as well as guidance on the next steps for pursuing a career in the culinary industry.
